Hi, I’m Di Ellor and I live in the Baddeley Green area of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
I am a qualified Canine Behaviourist and have a Higher Diploma in Canine Behaviour and Psychology. My studies in this field are always ongoing and I am now in the process of doing my Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management.
I have always been a big dog lover and find them great companions and soul mates. I am an experienced dog handler, with over 20 yrs experience, both as a companion dog owner and as a Home Office Dog Handler, where for 8 yrs I worked my German Shepherd dog, Flint, to a high standard including being successful in the Regional Dog Trials and representing The Midlands in The National Dog Trials (1997). I have worked a Spaniel as a specialist search dog. I also have experience of rescue dogs.
Since leaving the services I have concentrated on training my dogs which are Labradors, using kind and reward based training methods.
I now have two Labradors who are both rescue dogs and came to me with different behavioural problems. I have worked hard with my dogs and we have a fantastic life together even with our little issues at times.
I work very closely with Wendy using the same kind reward based training methods, and our experiences put together allows us to offer an exceptional service where training and behavioural work go hand in hand.
We both feel this is the way forward and we have seen a lot of great results, we have also had a lot of positive feedback to the service we offer.
I do home visits in order to gather as much information from the owner concerning the problems they are experiencing with their dog, during this visit I am able to assess the dog and see it in its own environment. Every dog is different and what works for one dog may not work for another, for this reason the methods suggested are tweaked to suit the owner, their dog and their home environment.
Owners find it a comfort that I have also owned dogs with problems and can relate to their fears and frustrations.
I am an honest up front person who believes in being straight with the owners from the word go.
There are no quick fixes for a lot of dog problems, owners must understand and be prepared to put a lot of time and effort into helping their dogs and in certain cases the problem will never go away. It is a matter of controlling the dog and his/her environment and making the best of a bad situation.
I do not allow the use of choke chains on dogs due to the severe damage that can be caused to the throat and neck.
I am a student member of the UKRCB (UK Registry of Canine Behaviourists), my main aim is the welfare of the dog as well as the owner.
